Bubby's Pie Co.

The name Bubby's Pie Company may conjure up images of a warm, friendly cafe that serves great food at reasonable prices in an atmosphere you like to think of as home, but what you really get is an over-priced, generic, and sterile restaurant that, despite its efforts, is only steps above a coffee shop chain, with horrible food and mediocre service. I could not even bring myself to try the one, supposedly, great thing on the menu- the pie!
Atmosphere
Located on an amazing corner in Dumbo which overlooks Manhattan, Bubby's is a large, lovely space with high ceilings, wood floors, and homey wainscoting. The walls are painted in warm colors of cream and 1940's kitchen green, and nice black and white photos hang on the walls. But, despite its attempts at cozy, home-style charm, the atmosphere is disappointingly sterile and lackluster. It was cute, but overly calculated, and lacking any real personality.
Service
Service was friendly, though truly amateur, teenagers in jeans disappearing whenever you need them, runners slapping things on the table, and busboys who have no clue how to answer your questions. Actually, everyone here seems eager enough to please, they just don't have any clue how to do it.
Food
After reading over and over again about how great the food is, we were totally disappointed. The best thing to come out was the initial basket of biscuits, which were flaky and warm, but served with an over-sweet strawberry jam that came in those individual plastic containers like you get at Denny's. The Huevos Rancheros ($16) were so bland, with watery black beans and a tasteless tortilla, that even the tablespoon of dreaded raw onions could not give them any flavor. I pushed the plate away after eating only a few bites. The same goes for the BBQ Sandwich ($14) which had a sauce that was way too sweet and was served with mushy, uneventful fries. For the kids we ordered a Belgian waffle with blueberry compote ($14) that was, again, without much flavor. The only good thing was the jug of real maple syrup that came with it. The coffee was also weak and tasteless.
Cleanliness
Bubby's is very clean. The bathrooms are nice.
Pros
Great location, nice home-style décor. Good biscuits, and real maple syrup.
Cons
The food was pretty horrible across the board. Clueless service.
